September, 2006 We mentioned having a quantity of Choctaw Willy's BBQ sauce, and we heard from Sheila in Maben: "Choctaw Willie's has some of the most awesome bbq, but their sauce on smoked turkey in a salad is to die for. They sell this in the restaurant and is what I usually get when I go home to Florida." |

(This was the result of a customer asking
Lynn to ship some spices to a cooking-impaired friend. Lynn's
placed the recipes mentioned in the Bargains And Recipes section of
the website.)
Subject: SPICE RESULTS!!
Dear Lynn,
I thought you might like to know the results
of our spicy conspiracy!
He's making CASSEROLES!! And MUFFINS! And
OATMEAL COOKIES! I sent him a
bunch of easy casserole recipes and stayed
on the Internet with him while
he put one together. He loved it! Now he
says he doesn't need me to
hold-his-hand any more with the rest of
them...he can do them himself
(LOL). He has also made Apple Spice Muffins
and Oatmeal Cookies and liked
both. I'm attaching some of the recipes I've
got him using in case you'd be
interested in seeing what he's up to.
Happy New Year and thanks again,
Dawn

Hi, How nice of you to put our antique shop
on your web site. It looks
great and the kind words mean a lot.
Sincerely,

| 8/17/05 Emily Jones at the Starkville Daily News printed a nice article on Second Chance Grocery in the Lifestyles section. |
| 2/25/05 Hi Lynn, So sorry I haven't written sooner....so busy with life. We wanted to thank you very much for these extra contacts. We could tell as we went through them that this was very time consuming to look them up and type them here, and we wanted to let you know how much we really appreciate it. They will come in handy. My husband is leaving the 20th for auction school so hopefully after that things can get moving in the direction of needing to stock these types of items. So again, thank you so much for your time and personal touch, it didn't go un-noticed. |
| 10/12/03 (via email) Hi, I have just spent the
better part of, no, ALL of an hour checking out your web site. I
couldn't stop till I had read every page and newsletter. I must
admit it is the first time I have been there. I know, I know, I have no
excuse. Now I see what I've been missing I want to subscribe to this
letter. What can I say? I'm just a glutton for, Entertainment? Please
sign me up, so I can start widening my culinary vocab! |

7/29/03 I'd like a bit of info, if possible.
Out of curiosity, some friends bought a jar of Goya Pacaya Encurtida,
pickled date palm, from the local Wal-Mart. Having bought it,
they are now afraid to try it or even open it, without first knowing
more about it. As the nearest Internet Researcgh Expert (meaning
the nearest person who knows how to type a few words into Google), I
was chosen to find that vital information. Alas, I get only
about three "hits," and all from your Second Chance Grocery.
So, if you please, could you provide just a
bit of info about this weird-looking mystery food -- how to eat it,
what it tastes like, etc.?
Thank you for any assistance.

(Lynn's Answer.................)
If I'm the expert on pickled date palm,
we're all in trouble!!! (Said with a big grin on my face).
That said, we've had a few jars and one customer bought it all to
use on a relish tray for a party. She had never had it before,
but thought it would be interesting to serve her guests (they must
all have had a sense of adventure). I'm assuming it would
taste like a pickle, probably on the dill rather than sweet
side. Another one of my customers buys all the pickled cactus
he can get. He eats it straight out of the jar, again like a
pickle.
Anyway, go ahead and try it. If
you like pickles/vinegar, it should be good!

| 6/18/03 (Response to the 6/18 newsletter) Ahhhh... but see -- there's also many good reasons to shop in your store if you ARE on the Atkins diet. Tons of legal salad dressing for cheap (including the "bleu" cheese), bacon bits, all those great flavored almond toppers, bags of chopped nuts, low carb bars... sometimes you even have sugar free pancake syrup and natural peanut butter. (Or the sugar free ketchup like you held for me last week!) It's not a bad life at all -- definitely worth giving up the cookies and milk. ;) |
| 6/18/03 (A different response to the 6/18 newsletter) Allen- I really enjoy the SCG newsletter but I'm worried that you might have too much time on your hands. : ) |
| 4/3/03 You don't know me, however, my
name is LaRosa (Harris) Tate. I am originally from
Starkville, MS and I now live in Jackson, MS. I just read an
article about your new store and I visited your website. What you guys
are doing is wonderful. Even though I do not live there anymore, I
know that it helps out many people in Starkville and I just wanted to
let you know that I really appreciate it. I went to college at MSU
and I know that being able to buy cheap groceries helps the students out
especially when you're living off work-study checks! Lastly, I wanted you to know that I appreciate the last question on the FAQ page. I love Jesus Christ too! I know that it's His love that abides in you and gives you the desire to do this for the community. Thanks again! God Bless You!
In Christ's love,
LaRosa J. Tate
