SECOND CHANCE NEWSLETTER 4/17/03

Maundy Thursday

It's Maundy Thursday, almost the end of Holy Week.  Maundy is a derivative of the Latin mande, which is explained by Yahoo! in this way: Middle English maunde ceremony of washing the feet of the poor on Maundy Thursday, from Old French mandé, from Latin mandatum command; from Jesus' words in John 13:34

It's Not Free, But It's Getting Pretty Close
Lynn's gotten so many salad dressings in that she's cut the price way below where it should be.  All 16 oz. dressings are $1.00, and all 8 oz. dressings are 50 cents.  All brands, all flavors, all labels.  24 oz. bottles are only $1.50.   Cheap, huh?
I saw two college kids in one of the Big Stores last night carrying two bottles of Ranch around, and it was all I could do to not stop them and tell them "Hey, don't pay $3.29 each for that!  Pay a buck each at Second Chance!!!!"  But, ethics got the better of me, and I held my tongue.  (You might want to put that on the calender, it doesn't happen often.)

Fruit Juice Extravaganza
SCG has a huge supply right now of 64 oz. fruit juices, especially apple/strawberry, troplical waveboard (no kidding), apple/raspberry/peach, and apple/cherry/banana.  All of these are marked down to $1.50 each.

Easter Is This Sunday

Easter decorations are only 25 cents.  At that price, you can't afford to not decorate.   Break out of your conservative fiscal mode, spend that 25 cents, and be festive for this Sunday.  Some of these are the too-cute bunny rabbit edible cake decorations that would look great in the center of your cupcakes...................

Remember Soupy Sales?

Poor old Soupy.  Every week he'd get a pie in the face on his TV show, and it was hilarious.  SCG has graham cracker or shortbread pie crusts for only 75 cents each, cheap enough that you can afford a Soupy Sales stunt or two of your own.

Whaddaya Know?  Not Much, You?
Michael Feldman always opens his NPR radio show with that saying.  If he really wanted to stump the contestants, he'd ask questions about the date palm.  It's one of the oldest food trees we have, it's mentioned in the Bible as the "tree of life", and, guess what?  SCG has Pickled Date Palm in stock.  In Spanish, it's known as "pacaya encurtida".  These delicacies are a hard to find treat, and the ones we have in stock now come from Guatemala under the Goya brand (Goya is the Heinz 57 of Central and South America).  Try a taste of history for $1.50.

Pick Up The Pace

Sorry, the national ads stuck with me, I guess.  Pace Picante Sauce, the 16 oz. jar, is only $1.50.  Cheesy Taco Dinners are $1.50, as well.

Glory!

One of the joys of doing this is discovering the Glory brand foods.  Our customers snatch these up as quick as they are put out.  These are Southern foods, prepared in the Southern way, and everyone who's tried them says Glory has the best packaged foods on the market.  We've got Glory brand Corn Muffin Mix for 25 cents, cheaper than buying it all separately and hoping you get the proportions right. Not only do we have a good supply of these mixes, we have them both ways (white corn or yellow corn).

Live It Up
Two weeks ago we talked about having the expensive Gardetto's breadsticks in stock  Here's what the newsletter said then:   Gardetto's Family Bakery Breadsticks  These come Original Salted, Garlic Herb, Robusto Italian, etc.  The BSP is $1.69, which is a lot for 16 breadsticks in a fancy foil pouch.  But, the SCG price is only 50 cents, which lets you put more fancy bread on the table while keeping more folding bread in your pocket.

Well, we've still got plenty, and they're still only 50 cents.

Keep On Top Of Things

Every casserole needs a good topping, and adding sliced almonds to that green bean casserole adds a touch of flair that's hard to top.  SCG has Almond Toppers in stock, and these cool foul pouches come in flavors like Roasted Garlic, Spicy Szechuan, Sun Dried Tomato Basil, Country Ranch, and Robust Parmesan.   Use these to dress up salads, casseroles, chicken dishes, or anything else that needs a new flair. The large bags are 80 cents, the small bags 30 cents.  Not much to pay for a whole lot of culinary flash.

Thanks
. Thanks for subscribing to out newsletter.  We hope you found something here you can use.  SCG has a new load coming this next Tuesday, so drop by and visit, have some coffee, and remember: "Friends don't let friends overspend on groceries."

"Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb..................................."  John 20:1
"Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, 'I have seen the Lord' ......" John 20:18
"Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said 'Peace be with you'...." John 20:26

         Happy Easter, y'all.
