SECOND CHANCE GROCERY NEWSLETTER
JUNE 25, 2004
Things have been jamming down at SCG this week. Lynn got in a load of
Russell Stover chocolates (remember "samplers" when you were dating?)
that's she's able to price at 1/4 to 1/2 of their regular retail price.
I noticed a large quantity of Excedrin boxes (275 tablets per each) that retails
for $24 per box at $5.99 each (less than 1/4 the retail price).
Ben and David, Lynn's two right-hand guys, volunteered to write this week's
newsletter. So, their assignment (only, of course, after they volunteered)
was to each pick out the three items in the store that they thought were the
best or most interesting buys this week. With very little editing (did I
mention they volunteered to do this?), here are their selections.
(The "titles" inside the quotation marks are titles are of their own
design.......)

Well,
here at the Second Chance Grocery, we get all kinds of odds and ends. So I
figured I'd tell you about some of the odd-er odds and let Dave handle the
endier-ends.
As I write,
Dave and I are working on getting out a little shipment that "The
Boss-Lady" surprised us with. But the shipment itself wasn't the only
surprise. Inside we found an item that I had never even imagined:
potato chips in a box. We have two different types: Roundy's Ripple Potato
Chips and Old Time Potato Chips. In boxes! At the low price of 99¢ for 16
ounces of box-a-chips-licious novelty, who could pass up such a steal
deal?
Now everyone
knows that potato chips are salty and make you crave a beverage. So, why
not soothe your thirst for liquid AND foreign languages all at the same time?
We recently received a box of Tang in the big 26 ounce glass jars (That takes
care of the thirst). But what to our wondering eyes should appear, but as
we rotated the jar, the writing was not the same on the other side. We
puzzled around about what language it could be and finally settled on Arabic, we
think (That takes care of the foreign language). And, whereas you could be
paying upwards of $280 for a language course at EMCC, you could learn the basics
of Arabic in your own home, with your own ice-cold Tang for only $2.99, which is
way cheaper than the BSP.
Speaking of
ice-cold, with the weather warming up and if the rain ever lets up, this is the
perfect time for grilling out. But with charcoal prices so high, you can't
afford to cook your steak, much less enjoy it. Because while getting the
charcoal down to a bed of cooking coals, you are watching your money go up in
smoke. Not now though, if the Second Chance is your first stop. We
have charcoal in brown paper packages tied up with string in 20 pound
packages of Kingsford Charcoal that has been re-packaged and sent to us to sell
to you for only $5, again WAY lower then the BSP.
Hope to see
you soon down at the store.

Last
shipment I was talking to Lynn, and I told her we needed something different.
She asked what that might be, I told her "Lynn, we need Milky Ways, all
"REAL STORES" have them; she couldn't refute that, so If you're
craving something sweet, ATTENTION ALL CHOCOLATE LOVERS: Milky Ways are here at
Second Chance In mass quantities. Retailing in stores at $1.19. Milky Ways King
sized bars are now only 50 cents! So calm that sweet tooth, come and pay us
a visit!
Speaking of
foods that "The devil made me eat", many people are now on the Atkins
diet or some variation of it. Right now prices on diet related foods are
astronomical. It's hard for people to afford going on a special diet. People are
also always on the go, and that's why carb bars are so wonderful!!! Carb bars
have also been over-priced in the Big Stores, sometime selling for as much as $2
each. Second Chance feels the pain of both your wallet and your bank account and
offers the frugal consumer carb diet bars for thirty five cents a piece (that's
nearly three for a buck!).
Dog lovers,
your prayers have been answered. No longer do you have to search for the best
buy on dog food, it's here. On the back aisle, on the bottom shelf, we have
provided a mixture of all kinds of Purina Dog Chow. It has been re-bagged in
nifty brown bags for your convenience (because it was in busted bags) and is now
available to you for $5.00! Your check books will be happy and so will your
trusty canine
That's it for this week. Thanks for subscribing to our little newsletter,
and don't forget to bring a friend when you come visit.
"And a lawyer stood up and put Jesus to the test, saying, "Teacher,
what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" And He said to him, "What is
written in the Law? How does it read to you?"And he answered, "YOU
SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND
WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS
YOURSELF." And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; DO THIS
AND YOU WILL LIVE.""
