New Shipment Has Arrived
A new shipment arrived Monday, and at least half of it is already on the
shelves. This shipment included several new cases of coffee, and some
other items we'll mention later.
The Pen Is Mightier..........
SCG has a large display of pens, mechanical pencils, and office/school
supplies now. On the wall facing the juice packs and coffee shelf is a new
pegboard, with gel pens, ballpoints, rubber grip pens, scented ink (?) pens,
glue, staplers, highlighters, mailing labels, name tags, file folder labels,
scissors, sharpies, crayons, glue, adhesive remover, rulers, notebooks, etc.
Just the pens and pencils alone have over 40 varieties.
Arid Frijoles Galore
One of the staples of our family pantry is dry beans. We keep a large
supply on hand. After we get them home, we put them in large Mason jars
with tight lids, and they keep just about forever. Black bean soup, red
beans and rice, baked beans, all these dishes start best with dry beans.
SCG just put a large stock of dry beans on the shelves. Pink, red, black,
large white, small white, yellow split pea, green split pea, 16 bean soup mix,
Ham Beens, and more are available at very low prices.

Coffee Or Tea?
JFG coffees are still in good supply. It's not a common brand here, but in
other parts of the country, it's as common as the brands we know so well here.
Special Roast, French Roast, Gourmet Blend, etc are plentiful. The bags
range 11.5 to 13 oz, and are only $1.50.
We've also gotten some green tea in, in several varieties and flavors.
The Fourth Is This Friday
No matter what kind of baking you do for the Fourth, be sure to top it with
Pillsbury Stars and Stripes sprinkles. A large supply is on the back table
by the baking pans. Well... Maybe it does matter what you're baking.
I wouldn't put sprinkles on chicken or fish....... Okay, how about "No
matter what kind of cookies or cakes you bake for the Fourth.........".
Yep, that's better.
Lisy and Orale
"Lisy and Orale" sound like the lounge act at a Holiday Inn, but
they're actually two brands from the same company. Lisy Foods in Miami has
been around about fifteen years, and they make hundreds of varieties of spice
packages. On the shelf just across from the candy, between the usual spices and
the granola bars, you'll find several small bins of Lisy and Orale label
packages. (These are the clear plactic bags with the bright yellow paper
label.) The current stock includes dries whole Cascabel chili pods, whole
oregano, whole cinnamon, marjoram, ground oregano, Mexican lime,, ground arbol
chili, eucalyptus leaves, whole natural chamomile, and other spices.
"Menudo Mix" is one of their packages. It's used for
flavoring menudo, and specialty soup that's a favorite along the border.
They have packs of garbanzos and peanuts flavored with chili and lemon.
Pepitas are something you won't find at our local Big Stores. As the name
implies, these are zesty nuts with a one of a kind flavor. Actually
special pumpkin seeds from Mexico's Yucatan, they're hand-shelled, roasted and
ready to savor.
Camaron Natural is a salty snack that can also be used as a flavoring for soups.
Camaron is Spanish for shrimp. These are shrimp that have been cooked,
dried, and heavily salted. They're whole shrimp (yes, with heads and all)
that can be pulled out and used however you wish.
Tarugos......... Gee, I just don't know. These are snacks made from
tamarinds, corn syrup, and chili powder. They're little round
lozenge-looking items, about 9 or 10 to the package. They're sort of soft
and squishy, and............... I have no idea what they are. I've
searched the web, quizzed our local food gurus, and come up blank.
If you try them, let us know what they're like.
