Keeping 'Em Stocked
We're doing all we can to keep our shelves stocked after Katrina.  Despite heavy buying by those who have been sending relief supplies, interrupted deliveries due to our distributors'  trucks being sent to the coast, and other obstacles, we have managed to keep the flow of stock as high as possible.
We got lots of new items in this week's shipment, and we'll outline a few of them below.

No Control, None At All

That's the way I feel when I've got a box of Crunch And Munch.  I start with just a handful, and pretty soon the whole box is gone.  Lynn's got two flavors right now, Buttery Toffee and Caramel.  Both   styles are the big 12 oz box, and it goes for only $1.99.

It's The Real Thing
Rotel Tomatoes and Green Chilies.  Ahhh.....  There are few comfort foods better than a big bowl of Rotel dip and a bag of of tortilla chips.   At only 50 cents each, you can choose from several varieties:  Original, Mexican (with lime juice and cilantro), Chunky, Extra Hot, and Mild.
Everyone's got their favorite.  I grew up using a half block of Velveeta and a can of Rotel to make the dip (heat the Rotel first, then add the cheese).
Our friend Caryn makes queso (Spanish for "cheese") sauce; Cheddar, mozzarella, Rotel, and  milk.  When heated and blended well, it's much better than what I grew up with.
There's chili style..... Browned ground beef with onions, add Rotel, add Velveeta, and serve over tortilla chips with raw onions and jalapenos to make nachos.
If those ideas don't warm you up, you can use the recipes on the cans, or make up your own version of this famous dip.  No matter how you fix it, at 50 cebts a can, it'll be the most cost effective Rotel dip you've ever had.

Shop At This Other Store
That may sound a bit odd, but let us explain.........
One of Lynn's good friends works at a Bath And Body Works store in the middle part of the state.  Her friend opened her mail this week to find a significant check from The Limited, the parent company for the Bath And Works.  It seems that The Limited has decided to send a relief check to all of the employees in the areas affected by Katrina, and will continue to provide support to their employees over the next few months.
This company has stepped up to the plate, and is taking steps to make sure their people are okay. In addition to those two stores, they also own The Express and Victoria's Secret stores in Mississippi.
We would like to encourage our friends and customers to visit stores in these four chains when you have the opportunity, and do some business with them.  What they are doing demonstrates a rare generosity and genuine concern for employees in today's "bottom line" business climate, and we think The Limited should be commended for their efforts toward their employees well-being.

Ham Sandwiches Deluxe

Gulden's Mustard is in stock right now; Spicy Brown and Zesty Honey are the two flavors Lynn brought home for this issue.  The Spicy Brown is perfect for a grilled Polish sausage sandwich with grilled onions and bell peppers, and the Zesty Honey really dresses up a ham sandwich.
Yo sammiches can be stylin' for only 99 cents a jar.

7 Grams?

If you're watching carbs, you'll have to watch pretty close to find very many in these.  Progresso Carb Monitor soups, many, many styles (including Chicken Vegetable and Tuscan Style Meatball), each can with two servings, and each serving only 7 carbs.  Each can is $1, so that's 50 cents per serving, and only about 7 cents per carb.  That's pretty cheap, as carbs go.

Throw A Banquet

Banquet Homestyle Bakes are complete meals in a box.  The sample I saw was Savory Beef and Sour Cream Sauce With Mushrooms (BEEF INCLUDED!).  Takes five minutes to prep, and 30 minutes to cook.  You can easily feed two or three people a good, tasty meal for $2.50 plus tax. What a deal!

Check Your Traps

I got one of those annoying "Urgent, Read This" emails today.  You know the ones.......  They herald some grim, little known disaster of modern life waiting to happen, the first 20 letters of the subject is usually "fwd: fwd: fwd:...."  All claim to be revealing secrets you desperately need to know, else you'll be the next victim, etc.
Well, this one came from my sainted Aunt Betty Jean, so I took a look at it, and checked out the story.  Lo and behold, it wasn't a hoax, or a half-truth, or a 20 year old story that has long since been resolved.  Even my favorite de-bunking site, Snopes.Com, reported this to be true.
If you use dryer sheets in your clothes dryer, take time occasionally to not only clean the lint filter, but to also WASH the filter screen with hot water, a mild soap, and scrub lightly with a soft brush.
Seems the waxy substance on the dryer sheets will accumulate invisibly on the screen, causing the filter to clog, making the dryer work harder than it should, leading to premature clothes dryer failure.  A waxed up screen can cut your dryer's life in half.
Just clean off the lint, and put the trap under the sink faucet.  If water runs through freely, no problem.  If it drips or runs slow or won't run at all, it's clogged and needs a good washing.

Come On Down
Coffee's on, come on by to visit when you can, and do your friends a favor...... Bring them, too.
