SECOND CHANCE NEWSLETTER NOV. 11, 2003
Do It Again
Back in 1972, Walter Becker of Steely Dan penned a great big hit called "Do It Again", and it appeared on the Can't Buy A Thrill LP. LPs, for those of you too young to know of such ancient technology, were (are) large vinyl discs filled with many wondrous grooves (both literally and figuratively). These vinyl discs were eventually supplanted with compact discs (CDs), and the beginning of the end was begun.
Well, you still can't buy a thrill, but you can get pretty darn close, as Second Chance does it again (see a pattern here?) with the Grand Half Price Sale Of 2003. Yep, the "half off" deal on all non-food products has been so popular, Lynn has decided to continue it for one more week. It ends this Saturday. All non-food items, except for Rubbermaid items, are half off the already bad seriously cheap SCG prices. When Saturday gets here, it's over, and you'll once again have to spend only a third of what the stuff's worth, instead of a sixth.
The New Shipment
The most recent shipment arrived Friday instead of Thursday, and most of the shipment is still not out. They're working on it, but due to the traffic in the store, it's getting out slowly.
Dunk's Hot Sauce
We met the nicest Christian folks this past weekend. They were selling homemade hot sauces, giving out free samples of dips made with the sauces as flavorings, and just generally spreading good cheer. The are the Dunkins family, and they make and market Dunk's Hot Sauces. These nice folk are from just across the line in Tuscaloosa, and they make all the sauces themselves, right down to putting each label on by hand. Dunk (Howard gets called "Dunk") and his daddy raise most of the peppers on their home place, and Dunk and bride make the sauces in their own kitchen.
We're now the exclusive Mississippi source for this boutique hot sauce. Regular retail is $3/bottle, but Lynn, in keeping with her philosophy that good food ought to cost less, is marking these little bottle of delight at only $2.75 each. She has two of their many varieties in stock, the Real Thang sauce (not so hot), and the Crazy Thang sauce (much hotter).
Drop by and try a bottle, or a bottle of each. Once again, you can't buy this anywhere else in Starkville but here.
Bump And Grind
SCG has these cool little glass pepper mills in stock. They're McCormick pepper mils, and they come preloaded with peppercorns (black, green, mixed, etc.). They're $1.25 each, and when the pepper is all used up, you can reload them with new pepper and keep on grinding. The occasional "bump" might be needed to free up peppercorns as you near the bottom of the mill............
Hungry Jack Microwaveable Lite Syrup
Easy. Stick it in the microwave, and the handle stays cool. Hot syrup, cool handle, a great price at only $2.00. The bottle even has a little graphic sensor on the front to tell you when it's hot.
Creme Savers Soft Candy
Big bags of these are only 50 cents. Lots of good flavors like chocolate and caramel, raspberries and creme, and orange and creme.
Lisy Complete Seasoning
This multi-use seasoning is just as good as it sounds, We covered the Lisy company several issues ago, and they're known for their great seasoning blends. Salt is WAY low on the list of ingredients, so if you're watching your sodium intake, this should certainly be on your shopping list. A great big jar (12 oz) is $2.50.
